History

The original station opened in 1879. Its wooden structure was reminiscent of Swiss chalets and served as a link between Milan’s city centre and the wider Lombardy region. The station was expanded in 1920 as Milan grew as a commercial and cultural hub, but World War II air raids destroyed much of the original building.

The modern Cadorna FN is the result of a renovation led by Gae Aulenti in 1999. Its design features red columns, green panels, glass canopies and pink granite pavements.
