Marine Drive Station

Marine Drive Station is a Canada Line SkyTrain station at Cambie Street and Southwest Marine Drive in Vancouver’s historic Marpole neighborhood. Opened in August 2009, it is Vancouver’s only above-ground Canada Line station. Its elevated design has two side platforms with glass curtain walls, natural light, and panoramic city views.

The station connects downtown Vancouver, Richmond, and Vancouver International Airport (YVR). It also provides access to the North Arm Bridge, which serves transit and active transportation, including cycling and walking. Adjacent to the station is Marine Gateway, a mixed-use development with retail, office, and residential spaces.

History and urban development

Marpole is one of Vancouver’s oldest neighborhoods and has long been a transportation and trade corridor, in part because of its proximity to the Fraser River.

Marine Gateway transformed a former industrial site into a transit-oriented development. Completed in 2015, the 4.8-acre, LEED Gold-certified complex includes:

  • Two neighborhood plazas
  • A 250,000-square-foot office tower
  • 27 retailers and restaurants
  • Two residential towers with 415 condos and 46 rental suites—over 460 homes in total
  • An 11-screen Cineplex Theatre

The development’s sustainability features include green roofs, extensive landscaping, efficient stormwater management, water conservation, reduced parking to encourage transit use, and a district energy system using ambient-loop technology. Marine Gateway 2 is poised to add 1,400 rental homes, industrial spaces, community amenities, and a two-acre elevated park. A pedestrian bridge is planned to connect directly to Marine Gateway’s high street.
