History of Den Blå Planet

Origins and Conception

Den Blå Planet, also known as The Blue Planet, has its roots in the early 20th century. The first public aquarium, Danmarks Akvarium, was established in Charlottenlund in 1939 and served the public for over 70 years. The need for a modern and expansive facility led to the conception of Den Blå Planet.

In the early 2000s, the Danish architectural firm 3XN was commissioned to design the new facility. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation, Den Blå Planet opened on March 22, 2013, with Queen Margrethe II of Denmark attending the ceremony.
