What the embassy is

The Embassy of Ukraine in Seoul fosters diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations between Ukraine and South Korea. It provides consular services, supports the Ukrainian community, and promotes Ukrainian heritage through public programs. Located in Itaewon, a vibrant, multicultural district, the embassy is a resource for both official business and cultural engagement.

The embassy serves as a focal point for diplomatic dialogue, economic cooperation, and strategic partnership. It supports high-level visits, trade promotion, and technological collaboration, particularly in IT, automotive, and agriculture. Consular services include passport renewals, notarial services, and emergency assistance for Ukrainians, as well as visa processing, document legalization, and marriage registration for foreign nationals. South Korean citizens can stay in Ukraine visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period (more info).

During emergencies, including the 2022 escalation in Ukraine, the embassy coordinates with local authorities and supports Ukrainian nationals.

History

Ukraine’s diplomatic mission in South Korea followed the recognition of Ukraine’s independence on December 30, 1991, and the establishment of bilateral relations on February 10, 1992. The embassy opened in October 1997 in Seocho-dong, with Mykhailo Reznik as the first ambassador. Early diplomatic exchanges were managed by honorary ambassador Ho-Sang Wang (왕호상).

As diplomatic activities increased, the embassy moved to Dongbinggo-dong in 2002, then to its current address at 21, Itaewon-ro 45-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, in January 2015. The 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2012 was marked by cultural events and public celebrations.
