How it works

Lookalike ticket sites buy ads or build pages that appear official, then sell overpriced or invalid Kilmainham Gaol tickets. The official OPW page warns that no third party is authorized to sell tickets for the gaol.

How to spot it

The site is not on the official Heritage Ireland domain, adds strange booking fees, or claims exclusive availability when the official site shows none.

Safe alternative

Buy only through the official Kilmainham Gaol page on Heritage Ireland. If the official site has no tickets, assume it is sold out rather than hunting for a reseller.

Discounted second-hand Go City passes sold on random sites or social media

How it works

Sellers offer an 'unused' or 'part-used' digital pass at a discount. Go City terms state passes are non-transferable and may only be resold by authorized resellers, so the buyer carries the risk of invalidation.

How to spot it

The offer comes from classifieds, social media, or a reseller not named by Go City. The price looks too low and the seller pushes urgency.

Safe alternative

Buy direct from Go City or from an authorized seller listed by the issuer. If the source is unclear, walk away.

Unofficial claims that DoDublin Freedom vouchers can be activated anywhere

How it works

Some third-party sellers make the Freedom Ticket sound like an instant-use e-ticket, but the official DoDublin page says vouchers must be redeemed before use and only at specific official points.

How to spot it

The seller does not mention the required redemption step or lists pickup points that do not match the official DoDublin page.

Safe alternative

Use the official DoDublin page and redeem only at the listed locations on O'Connell Street, Stephens Street Lower, or ICE in Dublin Airport arrivals.

Don't buy a pass if…

  • block You are staying in central Dublin for 48 hours, plan to walk most places, and only expect one paid attraction plus free museums.
  • block Your shortlist is mostly free sites such as the National Museum branches and National Library, with maybe one church or castle on top.
  • block You are tempted by the Go City All-Inclusive pass but will start sightseeing late in the day. Its calendar-day rule burns value fast.
  • block You do not want the hop-on-hop-off bus. That usually rules out the DoDublin Freedom Ticket and often the Days Out Plus Card as well.
