About UFRN
Situated in Natal, Brazil, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) is a multidisciplinary institution focused on education, research, and culture. Its campus combines Brazilian modernist architecture with green spaces and is open to students, researchers, tourists, and residents.

History
UFRN was established in 1958, bringing together independent faculties in Natal—including Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, and Dentistry—under a federal structure. It was created to respond to regional demand for skilled professionals and research.
During the 1960s and 1970s, the university expanded its academic offerings. By the 1980s, it had developed academic centers for Applied Social Sciences, Humanities, Technology, Biosciences, Health Sciences, and Exact and Earth Sciences (UFRN Departments). UFRN also established satellite campuses in Caicó, Currais Novos, and other cities.
Constructed in the 1970s, the 123-hectare main campus is a showcase of Brazilian modernist and functionalist architecture.

Museum Câmara Cascudo
The Museum Câmara Cascudo is UFRN’s leading cultural center, specializing in natural sciences, anthropology, archaeology, and regional heritage.
